ABOUT THE CAUSE
The pediatric oncology unit of The Cancer Institute (WIA) was set up in 1960. The Cancer Institute has been a pioneer in management of pediatric cancer in India, treating 250 new patients every year with over 4000 childhood cancer patients on follow up.
The institute provides state-of-the-art treatment to children battling cancer, including high-dose chemotherapy, stem-cell therapy, limb salvage for bone tumours, and precision-guided radiotherapy.
The Mahesh Memorial Pediatric Ward is an independent building with 55 beds of pediatric patients. The ward has 9 fully-functional ICU beds to care of critically-ill children as well as a fully-equipped procedure room with anesthetic equipment.
At The Cancer Institute, children are treated with holistic care that includes medical treatment, psycho-social support, nutritional support, education, and art-and-play therapy. The pediatric oncology department has a dedicated dietician, social worker, pharmacist, psycho-oncologist and data entry operator.
